Genre Audience and Institutions

Audiences relies heavily on the genre of the film as it allows them to clearly associate things they like with it i.e if your watching a psychological thriller they are expected to question and try solve the plot before its actually revealed. Or even if someone is watching a horror they are expected to get scared and terrified during the scary scenes.

By them knowing which genre they use the can also associate which actors are required to play that certain role (archetypes)

Film distribution companies use genres to target a specific audience for whom which enjoy that particular genre. This making it more profitable because if the film distribution companies distribute to the wrong audience it wont appeal to the right audience which may lead to the low ratings
