The use of a Silencer in our Media Shoot

We added a silencer in our Thriller opening sequence as our group felt it was an essential concept of the prop list as it added more meaning to the backstory of our thriller. It also help make it seem more realistic (add realism) in to the opening sequence as the situation made more sense due to the clothing that our hit man. This is due to the fact that our hit man will be wearing a trench coat with a suit (in the picture on the right) as we made him model for the shoot in order see if it seems convincing enough in that costume. This meant gave our group a clearer idea of how our actor is going to look like for our media thriller

It was also to make it seem more realistic as hit man usually use a silencer because without the silencer it would make the gun much louder which defeats the purpose of him being a hit man. Due to the clothing of our hit man he gives connotations to the audience that he is a professional therefore having a silencer suits the character more. This is also adds more meaning to our media thriller as it makes it seem like he has been hired or had trained experience in the field. Therefore the audience wants to find out the backstory of why he killed him giving it more depth.

Organising Props

For our media thriller will will only be using 3 props that will either be brought by our group from our budget or we will borrow them from the school Media/theatre department. To ensure that we have all these props we will bring them in a week before our media thriller, this allows our group to be more prepared as the props plays a key role in our media studies thriller.

The three Props are:

The first is a pistol and a silencer. We must ensure that the silencer can attach and de-attach from the gun as we will be having a scene where the hit man will be screwing the silencer onto the gun. We have requesting from the theatre block if we would be allowed to borrow their replica gun as they have recently used one for their school play.

The second prop that we require is the phone that doesn't contain GPS or we would be using a HTC one and just put it on airplane mode so it doesn't interfere with the camera. We would be either buying the phone from amazon or check if one of the student has a phone similar as it would save our group '300 pounds'.

The last prop is a fiat punto. This is the most important prop that we will require it as most of our thriller is filmed around the car and inside the car. The reason why our group chose a fiat punto is because we wanted our victim to seem like a college/university student. We will be borrowing one of the Media Studies teacher as he has this same model in the picture which, prevent our group to save cost as we wouldn't have to buy a car.

Props List

How many?

We don’t need very many props as our thriller is set in a. We only require 3 props as we thought that was a suitable amount of props as we don't want to complicate the the atmosphere with a bunch of props combined with close ups.

What do you need?

We need a pistol for the man sat in the back of the car,

We also need a phone for the person sat in the front to talk on, preferably one without gps so it doesn’t interfere with filming however if we do use a phone with gps we would have the phone be put on airplane mode so it doesn't interfere with the camera.

And a car which is where our thriller is set, it doesn’t have to be a specific car as we are only using the inside of the car however it would be preferred if the car was a relatively cheap and small car as our victim is a university sudent. 

Where are you getting them

We are getting the replica gun from the school as they have them from previous thrillers and plays. With the gun with decided to have a silencer added onto the gun as the Media department has a silencer with the gun. Therefore would reduce our overall price of our Media Thriller.

We are getting the phone from a media teacher at school who has one of the older phones which doesn’t have gps in it so it wouldn't interfere with the camera or we would be bring/buying a smart phone as most university students prefer to use a smart phone. However we might end up using a htc one and to avoid it interfering with the camera we would put it on airplane mode and download this fake calling app and just activate it.

Why do you need them?

All of these props are essential to our thriller and it couldn’t be done without any of them, as the car is also our location, the phone and the gun make the narrative. These props will help build the atmosphere that our group is trying to convey.

Organising Costumes

All of the costumes will have to be brought in by our group. We will either bring them or buy them, then we will bring the costumes to school a week before in order to ensure we have the costumes for our media thriller.

For our hit man we bought a suit from the Moss Brothers. The reason for this is because it makes him seem intimidating yet professional in the suit with a trench coat. 

For our other actor (Gabriel) we have chosen Topman. This is because
Topman isn't too expensive and it fits our actors very well to the cloths. This allows him to seem like a university student. 

 We had our actors to test the clothing's to ensure that all the sizes matched the actor and to check if they were matching the look they we were looking for. The picture on the left is our actor testing his costume as a hit man and on the right is our actor testing his costume as a university student.

Actors

For our media shoot we have two actors in our shoot. Our main actor will be played by Gabriel Jackson who currently goes to Hurtwood House and studies theatre studies. This meant that he had experience and he suited our role. This is because one of the main characters will be a university student, therefore Gabriel had the right appeal as he seems to look slightly older like a university student. 

Our second actor is Mike Niland who is currently a teacher in the Media Studies Department. His role will playing as a hit man who kills Gabriel Jackson. Mike suited our role because when he wore his costume he had a very menacing face and he had past experience being a bouncer therefore he had the right physic for the role of being a hit man

Costume

How many
For our opening sequence we require 2 costumes. One for the agent/hit man whom will be wearing a suit (from moss brothers) and the victim is wearing a jumper with jeans (from top man).



How are you going to get them
For the agent/hit man we have looked and seen our actor wearing a suit with a trench coat that matched his role. As for the victim we one of our group members is going to bring in the costume which will be bought online from topman.
To ensure that we bring the costumes in we will be bringing in the costumes 3 days before our shooting and leaving them to the media department or our own lockers, therefore it ensures us that nothing is forgotten.

What is the cost 
The cost will be split between each group member however we decided that we would use most of our budget on buying a nice trench coat for our hit man. Then the rest of the money will be spent on the victims cloths.

Why have we chosen these cloths
We have chosen our hit man to be wearing a suit? This is because usually we are trying to use mise en scene to illustrate to the audience that he is a hit man. The colour cloths that we have chosen for out hit man is all very dark therefore it gives connotations to him being the villain/bad guy in our thriller.

We have made our victim look very casual as he will be wearing a t-shirt with a jumper and jeans. This allows our audience to have an indication that he is victim as he looks like he is wearing cloths to a normal school day. We will specifically buy cloths form topman as the brand itself gives connotations to being a university student.

New Idea

New Idea

The opening scene thriller sequence is about a teen (18/19 years old) drives the a car. Then it reveals that there is a hit man behind his seat. This builds more suspense as the audience doesn't expect to see the hit man even though the teen driving looks slightly panicked. Then the teen gets shot and by the hit man causing the teen to drop his phone. It consist of some action during the plot as it makes it seem more thrilling and exciting. Only then does the hit man know the teen was calling his dad the whole time.
